Privacy Policy
Last Updated: January 1, 2026
Local-First Guarantee: RecallAlert is designed to be private by default. Your saved
recalls, scan history, and preferences stay on your device. We do not require an account, and we do not
track your location.
Introduction
RecallAlert ("we," "our," or "us") respects your privacy. Our business model is simple: we provide a tool for
you to check product safety. We are not in the business of harvesting or selling user data. This Privacy
Policy explains our minimal data collection practices (specifically for notifications) and how we ensure
your data stays yours.
Information We Collect
No Personal Data
We do not collect, store, or process any personal identifiers such as:
- Your Name
- Email Address
- Phone Number
- Precise Location (GPS)
Minimal Data Collection (Notifications Only)
We collect only the absolute minimum required to provide the services you explicitly request:
- Anonymous Device Tokens: If you choose to enable push notifications for real-time
alerts, we store an anonymous token generated by Apple. This token allows us to send alerts to your
device but is not linked to your identity or any personal data.
Data Stored Locally on Your Device
The following data is stored only on your iPhone and is never sent to our servers:
- Scan History: Photos and results from products you scan.
- Saved Recalls: Your personal bookmarks.
- Category Preferences: Which types of products you want to track.
- State Selections: Filtering preferences for local recalls.
Feature-Specific Privacy
Product Scanning (Camera)
When you use the scanner feature:
- We request camera access solely to capture the product image.
- The image is sent transiently to Google's Gemini API for the sole purpose of
identifying the product (e.g., "This is a Graco stroller").
- Note: We do not store these images. Google processes the image and returns the label,
after which the image data is discarded from the processing pipeline.
Push Notifications
You are in control. Notifications are:
- Opt-In Only: We never send alerts without your permission.
- Content-Specific: We use your anonymous token to route alerts (e.g., "Food Safety"
alerts) that match your preferences.
Third-Party Services
We use a limited set of trusted service providers to make the app work:
- Supabase: For storing the anonymous notification tokens.
- Google Gemini: strictly for processing product images during scanning (transient
usage).
- Apple Push Notification Service (APNs): To deliver the actual alerts to your screen.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this policy as our app evolves. We will notify you of significant changes through the app. The
latest version will always be available here.
